Today, people all over the world are celebrating World Toilet Day to create awareness on the importance of sanitation and sanitation facilities. These are a few things you should know about the lifesaver called a toilet.

1. A toilet seat is one of the cleanest parts of the bathroom.

That is according to Mythbusters.

2. Toilet brushes were manufactured using the same machinery as artificial Christmas trees.

3. 2.5 billion people do not have access to adequate sanitation and nearly 40% of the global population does not have a toilet.

According to 2013 UN data.

4. More people in the world have a mobile phone than a toilet.

5. Proper sanitation is a human right.

Yes it is!

6. Open defecation is dangerous – it spreads disease and causes thousands of deaths every day.

7. India has the world’s longest line for the toilet in the world. And Nigeria is in third place.

That means over two-thirds of the Nigerian population do not have a toilet in their homes!

8. Toilets have added 20 years to human life expectancy over the past two centuries.

9. Globally, 526 million women are forced to go to the toilet in the open. Often facing physical threats and violence.

2 Indian girls were brutally raped and hanged in May after leaving their homes to use the toilet in a nearby field.

10. World Toilet Day is the only day you have every right to say.. ‘shit’!
