Beauty is ever changing, some change so fast it could make your head spin. But even when the world has moved on to something new, there are some trends that stick with you, because they just work.
These are those.
Try them and thank me later.
1. Face primer
Ladies, you need this to achieve a smooth, even complexion, but most importantly, it’s the Holy Grail for those with oily skin types. It makes sure your makeup stays put longer by sucking up all the sebum that would otherwise make your face look shiny.
The best face primer you can use is by Smashbox. The brand has a range of versions to suit every different skin type and requirement. The primer gives skin a soft-focus finish and silky texture.
Can’t find or afford it? The best and cheapest alternative is Milk of Magnesia. It can be found at any good pharmacy or drug store for under N2000. Any brand is good, although my personal favourite is Phillips’ Milk of Magnesia.
Watch this video on how to use it.
You can be guaranteed that your makeup will stay put for hours; 8 hours minimum in fact. But beware, don’t use it everyday, as it is alkaline in nature and liable to mess up your skin’s natural metabolism. If you’d rather not use that, then the next cheap primer you can use is calamine lotion.
Apply the same way you would, the milk of magnesia.
2. Nude tone make up…
…that looks really natural is the in thing. Use BB cream to achieve skin a natural look and with a concealer, cover your acne scars and blemishes.
If you feel that it isn’t not enough, then use a CC cream or a foundation that’s your perfect skin colour.
3. Bold eyebrows
Power brows, like that of the American model, Cara Delevingne, are fast becoming the ‘It’ brows.
If your bushy brows have been the bane of your existence, then you better do the Hallelujah dance.
You have it easy.
Don’t have thick brows from all the past tweezing and threading? You will have to wait about 3 to 4 weeks for them to grow back to their fuller state, then lightly groom them using a razor blade. For a more immediate solution for thin brows and brows with gaps, try using a good quality brow powder for a more natural look, or a brow pencil to draw in the strands.
Always use light, feathery strokes and follow the direction of hair growth when filling in your brows. Alternatively, you can hasten the process of growing out your brows by using some castor oil. Apply a thin layer every night, before you go to sleep.
4. Dotted Lines
Made popular by Youtube blogger ItsMyRayeRaye, the under eye dots is a cute trend that’s gradually catching on.
Watch her video below to see how to achieve the look.
5. Nude coloured Lips
Nude toned lips are so this season, thanks to Kim Kardashian. Try the different nude tones in beige, light brown or pink colour.
Try MAC’s line of nudes or the cheaper alternatives by Jordana –which are just as good.
6. Natural Hair
Everybody’s going natural. No more relaxing and texlaxing. No more Brazilian and Indian hair. Ladies are choosing to return to their roots — and it is liberating. Imagine having to dance in the rain whenever you wanted. That is more than enough reason to join the Natural Gals’ Club.
Choosing the right moisturizer and using it correctly is very important — for all skin types. Whether you have oily or normal skin, always make sure to moisturise daily. Make sure to buy moisturisers that cater specifically to your skin type.
8. SPF Everything
In this time and age, pigmentation and sun damage should be your enemy. There is skin cancer after all. More and more women are going to great lengths to shade themselves from the sun. You can carry umbrellas to block out the sun’s rays. But you can go the extra mile by making sure that all your make up — from eye shadow to face powder to lip gloss has sun protecting factor (SPF) in it. Also, you can buy face creams and body lotions that has this in it. SPF should not be lower than 30+.
9. Eye cream
You’re never to old to use eye cream. Want to prevent crow’s feet around your eyes by the time you’re forty? Then start using it now. It’s the secret to remaining forever young.
Facial cleansing brush
This is a factor for flawless foundation application.Your foundation builds on the foundations you begin with
On smooth, well tended skin, makeup last longer and stay fresher, and you’ll need less makeup to create a radiant and dynamic result. Try using a facial cleansing brush with your facial cleanser. A good one is the Clarisonic cleansing brush. Or which is a more affordable version.
This is can be use with the brush, or on it’s own. St Ives, Neutrogena, Clean and Clear have facial scrubs that have been used by many and found satisfactory.
You could also make facial scrubs yourself using natural ingredients, which you’ll find around your home. Watch these videos to see how.
