There’s so much new music being released that it’s hard for even the most loyal fans to wade through the trash to find the gems. That’s why we’ve created #BumpThis – a Friday series that features new songs, by and featuring Nigerians, that you absolutely need to hear.
Maleek Berry — “Somebody Falling”
2019 has been a frustratingly quiet year for the talented Maleek Berry – save for one great, genre-bending single, “Flashy” and a handful of standout features. Thankfully, the producer-turned-artist has now dropped a new song to satiate his starving fans, “Somebody Falling”.
On the self-produced banger, Maleek Berry, known for doling out catchy love songs, sings about having the attention of a woman that’s stunning enough to get anyone she wants. Solidly produced and performed, “Somebody Falling” is another strong effort from the consistent hitmaker.
YCee — “Dakun”
For the past couple of days, following the release of the cover art and tracklist, the hype around Ycee’s upcoming debut album, Ycee vs Zaheer has been rapidly rising. Now, he’s come through with a fantastic single off the project, “Dakun”, which will surely generate even more anticipation.
Excellently produced by Krizbeatz, “Dakun” finds YCee utilising every major trick in his arsenal — his impeccable flow, his impressive voice and his sharp writing. Everything seamlessly comes together to create a love song that feels destined to be YCee’s next monster hit.
Krept & Konan — “G Love” ft. Wizkid
For the better part of 2019, Wizkid fans had to settle for only hearing their Starboy on features (“Brown Skin Girl”, “Totori”). He’s since dropped two solo singles, “Ghetto Love” and “Joro”, but that hasn’t stopped him from teaming up with other stars, the latest being Krept & Konan for “G Love”.
The track, like Wizkid’s first single of 2019, is about the appeal of a ghetto love story. While the afropop star isn’t given a lot to do — he only handles a part of the brief hook — his presence is still deeply felt. “G Love” ends up being just another reminder that Wizkid is the ultimate scene-stealer.
