There are very few things on this earth more awesome than dogs. Do you know what one of those things are? Weird dog facts. With that in mind, here are 8 amazingly weird dog facts you can use to impress dog owners (i.e that hot dog owner you wouldn’t mind throwing a bone) or just throw in the middle of a random conversation at a party so everyone can look at you and be like, “I’m sorry. What??”

1) Dogs have three eyelids.

The third eyelid is called the “Haw” or “Nictitating Membrane.” Its main purpose is to keep the eye protected and lubricated.

2) The Beatles song, “A Day In The Life” contains a frequency only dogs can hear.

Paul McCartney revealed in a 2013 interview that at the end of the song, he added a frequency only dogs can hear. I don’t know about you but it will forever bother me that dogs will always experience that song better than me.

3) A greyhound could beat a cheetah in a long-distance race.

It turns out that greyhounds are excellent long-distance runners and can keep a speed of 35mph for up to 7 miles. A cheetah, though faster, can only keep its speed for 200-300 yeads. Meaning that even though a cheetah would have a running start in a race with a greyhound, the greyhound would eventually pass it.

4) Dogs’ wet noses are used to absorb chemicals.

Their noses secrete a special mucus that absorbs chemicals, which they then sample by licking with their tongues. This helps them understand smells better.

5) A dog’s sense of smell is 10,000 times better than a human

s.

Dogs have up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses, compared to about six million in humans. Also, the part of their brains dedicated to analyzing smells is 40 times greater than that of humans.

6) Dogs can get jealous.

A study at the University of California, San Diego claims that your dog can get jealous when they see you show affection to another animal. This explains what happened that year we bought a ram to kill for Sallah and our dog tried to fight it. He thought he was about to get replaced. LMAO

If you’re wondering how the fight ended, he got his ass handed to him by the ram. It was hilarious.

7) Dog’s poop in alignment with the Earth’s magnetic field.

Facing the North-South axis, to be precise. Why? That was unclear according to the study.

8) A dog’s hearing is 4 times more acute than a human’s.

They have much more sensitive hearing than we do and can hear sounds four times farther away than we can. This means that what a human can hear from 20 feet away, a dog can hear from 80 feet away.
