Feminism has gotten a really really bad rep on Nigerian Twitter. I mean, you’d think with all the times it has been discussed on our timelines, people would have finally gotten the plot. Sadly, that still isn’t so.
Case in point:
If your mom was feminist who woulda prepared your meals? huh?

*Sighs heavily*
Thankfully, we still have a number of people that totally get what the movement is about, and have refused to stop trying to enlighten others in their own way.
Here are 9 tweets that really do the social movement justice:
1. Reducing Feminism to ‘domestic chores’ is extremely reductive.
Feminism is a lot more than who cooks and who washes boxers and who pays for dates. But for some reason that's what we keep discussing.

2. Feminism isn’t just about celebrating women who excelled against all odds, it’s also about improving those odds for others.

3. Feminism is in no way against meritocracy.
Feminism should be concerned with justice. Like any job, once it stops being of one's volition, it's something else. https://t.co/GHhbJz6qd8

4. Feminism, like all other social movements, should not be defined by their radicals.
Feminism isn't extremist. People just choose to have an extremist approach to it.

5. The medium used to speak up against inequality, should in no way delegitimize the message.

7. Men, whether they are feminists or not, should never dictate what feminism should mean to women.
Lord, help us understand that men cannot dictate what feminism is to women.

8. Feminism isn’t about women wanting to be like men, it’s about everyone being given the same opportunities regardless of gender.
I'm not a feminist because I want to be treated as a man or because I want men to be treated as women.

9. Feminism is NOT about man-bashing.
A lot of time people confuse man-bashing for feminism. A strong woman who recognises her self-worth and seeks to defend it is a feminist
