With the rapid advancement of the Nigerian creative industry, it is important to have conversations around industry growth to ensure that while creative freedom is expressed, quality and standard is maintained. Shoot Edit Repeat by Dada “Oluwadabest” Temitope is one of the initiatives leading these conversations in film.
On May 17th, 2024, fifty emerging filmmakers gathered for six thorough hours at the Shoot Edit Repeat Portfolio Review at Alliance Française in Lagos, Nigeria. The event featured sessions led by established filmmakers, including: Director K, Dammy Twitch, Timmy Davies, Blessing Uzi, Director Pink, 88 factor, Lekan.mov, Adeola Fadola, Ayo.mid, Ademola Falomo, King Ebuka, Oye Joseph and Fedworks.
The event was organized in partnership with Wiicreate, Z Space, Zikoko, Unruly, Deeds and Bounce. Strictly by invitation, the fifty participants present at the event were selected through submissions of their best works, which were closely scrutinized by facilitators.
The second edition, and the first to hold in Lagos, records a consistent success for Shoot Edit Repeat’s Portfolio Reviews. A participant commented that the event provided valuable insights, giving them things to think about.
Ibidunni Oladayo, Nigerian film director and Met Film School, London alumnus, remarked: “I got to see some really exciting works. I was also inspired. There were filmmakers here, literally the future of the industry. We were able to point out one or two things they could do better, which is the entire point of this event. And I’m glad I came, to be honest. It’s a great initiative by Dabest and Shoot Edit Repeat.”
