There are certain things you should never say to a Nigerian woman. Can we just agree now to respect ourselves and stop saying them?
1. “Calm down.”
Just don’t.
2. “Are you pregnant?”
It’s NEVER okay to ask this.
3. “You’re overreacting.”
Because the stereotype is that women are emotional and that they react above normal.
4. “Smile.”
I dont get it.
5. “You’re on your period right?”
This and other variations to explain a woman’s mood. It’s a no. When will you marry?
6. When will you have children?
Does it ever occur to you that some women can’t have children or don’t want to have children?
7. “You look like my mum.”
This and other pickup lines.
8. “I think what you’re trying to say is…”
I said what I said, don’t try to explain it to me.
9. “I hope you’re not one of those feminists.”
Yes. As a matter of fact, I’m the chief witch of the Ikeja Feminist Coven.
10. “When will you marry?”
Never say this to a Nigerian woman. If it’s a family member that asks you this, just tell them that with a straight face.
