Good morning, {$name}. 🌞
I hadn’t seen one of those investment scams disguised as life-changing opportunities for a minute until I stumbled upon one on Instagram last week. It did nothing but leave a sour taste in my mouth, taking me back to the proliferation of these things in 2020 and 2021. Those were dark times.
It also hit home because I have multiple friends who lost money to these scams. Some even lost their reputation. Someone I used to know was forced into hiding because he got entangled in an investment mess and had creditors knocking on his door.
The investment advice will always hold, “If it’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t [true]. It’s also what the lady in today’s #NairaLife will tell anyone. 2021 was the year she lost ₦1.4 million to investment scams. The kicker was that she was also unemployed. Luckily, only [mostly] wholesome things have happened since that time, and it was a combination of grit and making difficult decisions.
However, she’s still battling with an age-long fear of financial security. Why?

The 28-year-old HR manager in this #NairaLife has navigated a fear of financial instability and insecurity all her life. But in 2021, she lost ₦1.4 million to fake investments and struggled with unemployment. It’s 2023, and she’s grown her income to ₦910k monthly, but she isn’t happy. Why? Heavy black taxes and the fear of losing her job.

It’s almost December, and it’s that time people make vacation plans. I’m currently in a WhatsApp group with a few friends, and we’re planning a weekend getaway. While we all silently acknowledge that our plans may not make it out of the group, we still look forward to them. So I was wondering how much is a good price to pay for a weekend away. Or better put, what’s the most you’d pay for one of these things?
