Happy New Month, {$name}! 🌞

I don’t know how I feel about today being the last public holiday for some time. But we had a good run, didn’t we?

We move, boys and girls.

Today’s #NairaLife reminds me of the lyrics to Burna Boy’s “Common Person.” The only difference is that although the subject has had a long and relatively difficult life, I don’t think she has found her happiness yet.

And it’s mostly because of one person — her husband who, for some reason, is dedicated to being her biggest opp.

In this letter:

How My Media Experience Prepared Me for a Tech Product Marketing Role

Daniel Orubo worked in the media for over six years before deciding to transfer his skills to a tech role. He stuck to the process and completed his transition into the tech industry in 2021. Now he’s a product marketer at Piggyvest.

But how did he do it?

An excerpt: “When I decided to transition into tech, I quit my job, although I didn’t have another one lined up — a career first. Then I tweeted that I was looking for a marketing role in tech. I didn’t know what I thought the tweet was going to accomplish, but some cool founders reached out to me. I’m still amazed by the quality of people who wanted to work with me.”

Dating Life of an MSC Student on a ₦50k Monthly Allowance

Folake* (27) met her partner, Ezra* (26) during their NYSC in Kaduna, and they bonded over their knowledge of God and shared birthdays. In this story, she tells Zikoko about their initial fake relationship, celebrating their birthdays together, and how they plan to finance their upcoming wedding.

An excerpt: “We’re very open about our finances, and this makes it easier for our relationship because we know what each person can do, and we’ve learned to be content with what we get. We have simple dates where we buy shawarma and ice cream or food from Chicken Republic when we can’t go to a restaurant. The expensive dates are for when we go out with friends, and he usually offers to pay. I think the bill for our birthday last year was about ₦40k. He didn’t show me.”
