As we enter December, the holiday movie season is gradually kicking off in Nollywood. The slate of movies premiering this month is already set. Some have premiered already. Whether you’re a fan of love stories, action movies or just want serious movies that poke holes at the hypocrisy in our society, there are new holiday movies for you.

Everybody Loves Jenifa
One of the biggest talk of town in this latest instalment from the Funke Akindele movie franchise Jenifa. The all-star movie follows Jenifa on a new journey as a humanitarian. After squashing the beef with Juliana Olayode, Toyo Baby is back as her sidekick. Shippers will also get the latest from Sege (Falz) and Jenifa’s love story. The cast includes Nancy Isime, Stan Nze, Bisola Aiyeola, Patience Ozokwor, Chimezie Imo, Jackie Appiah, and Layi Wasabi. It will debut in cinemas on December 13, 2024.
Christmas in Lagos
This is a much-talked-about big-budget production from Jade Osiberu. The movie follows Fiyin (Teniola Aladese), who begins to develop feelings for her best friend, Elo (Shalom Obiago), after a heartbreak. However, complications arise after Elo returns to Nigeria, ready to propose to his secret girlfriend, Yagazie (Angel Anosike). The cast includes Shaffy Bello, Wale Ojo, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), Rayxia Ojo, Folu Storms, Waje, Adekunle Gold, Ayra Starr, and Ladipoe. It will premiere on Prime Video on December 20, 2024.
Thin Line
Thin Line is a whodunit that finds Pastor Raymond (Uzor Arukwe), embroiled in an investigation into the sudden death of a prostitute, Annie who he had been involved with. His life as a pastor and that is his wife, Pastor Dammy (Mercy Aigbe) comes to a halt as they try to defend themselves and also save their marriage. Directed by Akay Mason, the cast also includes Iyabo Ojo, Olaiya Igwe, The Cute Abiola, Jaiye Kuti, Adeniyi Johnson, and Yvonne Jegede. It will premiere in cinemas on December 13, 2024.
Alakada: Bad and Boujee
In the latest instalment of Toyin Abraham’s Alakada franchise, Alakada: Bad and Boujee, fans of Yetunde meet her as she continues lying about her contact and connection. The cast includes King Sunny Ade, Olumide Oworu, Bimbo Ademoye, IK Ogbonna, Chimezie Imo and Kolawole Ajeyemi. The film will premiere in cinemas on December 20, 2024.
A Ghetto Love Story
This film from Basketmouth has already premiered in the cinemas to glowing reviews. Based on a true-life story, it follows Obinna and Stella, “childhood friends whose dreams of a lifelong connection are overshadowed by life’s harsh realities.” Directed by Daniel Oriahi, the cast includes Basketmouth, Patience Ozokwor, Nobert Young, Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, Wale Ojo, Dorathy Bachor, Akah Nnani, Beverly Osu, Chimezie Imo, Efe Irele, and Ehiz DadaBoy.
Suspicion
This superhero film follows Voke, a young man who begins to practise juju after the brutal murder of his best friend and his daughter. He uses his powers to avenge their death and remove those that will stand in his way. Directed by Tosin Igho, the cast includes Uzor Arukwe, Omowunmi Dada, and Richard Mofe-Damijo. It premiered on Prime Video on November 28, 2024.
The Waiter
The Waiter is an action thriller by AY Makun. It follows a waiter who “unexpectedly gets caught in the middle of a hotel invasion, leading to a chaotic and thrilling adventure.” Directed by Toka McBaror, the cast includes Shaffy Bello, Deyemi Okanlawon, Regina Daniels, Rahama Sadau, Williams Uchemba, and Toke Makinwa.
Sisi London
This film by Omoni Oboli follows Cecilia (Oboli) and Philo (Chioma Akpotha), two different women who live in the same house and must accommodate each other. The film debuted on Netflix on November 29, 2024.
Seven Doors
This Femi Adebayo directorial debut reveals the ethnic tensions that bobble to the top after a Yoruba king takes an Igbo woman as wife, and how they try to withhold the throne and their heads when chaos ensues in their land. The cast includes Adebayo Salami, Ronke Oshodi, Muyiwa Ademola, Jide Kosoko, Aisha Lawal, Yinka Quadri, and Gabriel Afolayan. It will premiere on Netflix on December 13, 2024.
Mercy
This film tackles domestic violence and purity culture. It follows Taribo, an abusive and manipulative pastor and his wife, his victim, as she tries to escape years of abuse. Chioma Akpotha and Eyinna Nwigwe play the lead. It debuted on YouTube on November 20, 2024.
