If you were confused by the news over the weekend about a feud between gospel singer Tope Alabi and Nollywood actress/businesswoman Lizzy Anjorin, you’re not alone. Reports suggest both women are at odds after an incident surrounding a performance — or lack thereof — at Anjorin birthday celebration.
According to sources, Alabi was paid to perform at a surprise event, but when she found out that the celebrant was Anjorin, she reportedly refused to perform and returned the payment.

How did it all start?
On Friday, April 4, 2025, Lizzy Anjorin celebrated her birthday, and her fans in the diaspora decided to surprise her with a performance from Tope Alabi. But Alabi wasn’t told who the celebrant was.
Multiple sources report that when Alabi pulled up to the venue and discovered that Anjorin was the celebrant, she refused to step out of her car to perform. Multiple reports also said that she has refunded the money she was paid.

What did Lizzy Anjorin have to say about this?
Anjorin took to Instagram to voice her frustrations. She claimed Alabi was paid and should have performed. “Aunty Tope, my fans paid you ₦4 million, and I have the evidence,” she posted. “Even if it was ₦500k, were you not once an actress? We were taught to play our roles no matter what. You’re a brand your husband built with an empty stomach.”
She continued, “Aunty Tope, I love you but I do not need you. If I had invited her myself, I would not have paid a dime. I’m holier than you, aunty mi Tope. If we are to ask about your impact in society, I have impacted more lives than you. I’m holier than you. I have done more good than you did and I am pure. If you judge me because of my court cases, I am thankful that God did not judge me.”

Why did Tope Alabi refuse to perform?
At the time of reporting, Alabi had not publicly addressed her reasons for refusing to perform. She did, however, reportedly cite “personal” reasons for her decision.
In a viral video, an aide of Anjorin shared that Alabi left because she expected Anjorin to personally reach out if she wanted her to perform at her event. In the video, Anjorin responded that it wasn’t an event she had planned. She added that she would have asked Alabi personally, but the performance was intended to be a surprise.

How was Tope Alabi booked?
Filmmaker Oreofe Williams, who was involved in the booking process, explained the situation in an Instagram post. He said that another filmmaker had contacted him to arrange for Alabi to perform for someone they cherished, but no names were mentioned. He then secured the gig through Soji Alabi, Tope Alabi’s husband.
Williams also disputed Anjorin’s claim that Alabi was paid ₦ 4 million for the performance, stating that after a discount, Alabi was paid ₦2.5million.
Where do things stand now between Tope Alabi and Lizzy Anjorin?
The situation between the two women appears to remain tense. Lizzy Anjorin has openly expressed her displeasure, but she has since moved on by posting birthday updates on Instagram.
Tope Alabi has not directly commented on the matter, but Oreofe Williams suggested on Instagram that if Anjorin were truly a fan, she could have contacted Alabi directly via DM.
